the university of utah really does put on some great shows through the asuu. this past thursday, they booked brother ali/matisyahu for the night. it was an outdoor show right in "the free speech zone" right next to the union. a bunch of people showed up and it was great.
here are a couple videos from the show. they're terrible quality because they were recorded with my iphone (it's jailbroken) and i was recording portrait style and had to crop and rotate them all, blah blah blah. whatever. they'll give you an idea of what you missed out on because you're all suckers and i'm better than you.
kings of leon are back with a new album, only by the night, and i like it. i'm certainly not praising their lyrical prowess or song-naming ability, ie. sex on fire, but their music is fun—even with a song being devoted to wishing a girl wasn't only 17 years old. and i just love homeboy's voice.
the streets newest album, everything is borrowed, is fantastic. mike skinner quit the silliness that was his last album and went back to the basics. proof:
from the funny: When I was 5 or so my mom would tell me to lie down before she tied my tie and I just now realized at the age of 19 that she did this because she's a funeral director.
to the heartbreaking: As you were breaking up with me, all I could think about were those mornings when you compared the Pop-Tarts and gave me the one with more frosting.
to the heartwarming: Today you shaved your hair into a mohawk to make my mom laugh over losing hers to chemo and today I realized that you are my hero.
this version is so much better than the actual single. i don't know what clipse is thinking going to the commercial, generic production. scott storch is garbage.
t.i./swagger like us (ft. kanye, jay-z, lil wayne)
after hearing the incredibly sad news that m.i.a. is officially done with music,(no touring, no performing, no recording, no nothing) my spirits were brightened a little to hear t.i.'s latest which samples paper planes. why more artists don't sample m.i.a., i have no idea.
estelle/more than friends
british babe has got the soul and the pipes to do well for herself. her album, shine, is fantastic.
the knux/amazing
these two new orleans boys are fresh. if they aren't huge after their debut album finally drops this october, i will be a sad panda.
