i decided to finally watch lost in translation. i can't believe it took me this long to see this movie. it was fantastic. everything about it was stunning. the acting, the cinematography, the soundtrack–everything. it was all just really well done. wow.

what's cooler than being cool?

that's right mister. ice cold. i was bored today and wanted to make a background for my phone. chelsea suggested that i do something along the lines of christmas. i took her advice to heart, and though jack frost isn't exactly christmasy, he's in all those creepy awesome stop-motion christmas specials.



see, it turned out alright.

this is why jack frost is on my mind. this was taken a few days ago. it still looks the same. the road is just plowed better now.

look what i did today! it's just the first rough, so it will probably be tweaked and changed a bit, but it's the general idea.



this poster is like 22 x 33 in or something like that, so it's fairly big. they'll be in all the exam rooms and in the staircase at the health center.

these are pictures of the south african giant earthworm. the biggest recorded was 22 feet long. i would probably scream like a little girl if i saw one of these in person. then i'd probably try to play with it.

so... my boss boss changed everything, including the message of this poster. she wanted it "happier." so, this is what i came up with. i like the type much better. i hated the blue background at first, but it's starting to grow on me...

helvetica

we were required to go to this aiga event for class this past wednesday. it was a screening for this new documentary, helvetica. you'd think a feature length film about a typeface would be pretty dull, but i was impressed. they cover alot of topics and have a ton of interviews with amazing designers from around the world. it has a great soundtrack too. i'm going to get the dvd and bring it home and make my parents watch it so that they can fully understand what being a graphic designer is really about.

so this is the cover for the wellness guide. it's a 6 page insert that's going into the daily chronicle. this front is 11 in X 20 in. i think it came out pretty sweet. i think i'm starting to understand things typographically. maybe.

this is the logo sort of thingy for the pccha conference. this particular design is for a lapel pin (lame) that they're giving away at the event. the whole idea behind it is utah, sunset, mountains, inner flame. blam! it also prints a little warmer with more red. it looks much more "fire" like.




this bad boy is a poster for the wellness fair 5k. the guy in charge said he wanted a runner with "lines" coming off of him like he's running. wow, what a cool and original idea mister. this is my response. i tried to make something out of nothing, and am actually pretty happy with the results.

news on the scooter front! they're done and being shipped here. i share with you a pic of the exact scooter i am getting in exchange for my logo design.



if you look closely, you can see my logo in all its glory right below the headlight on the chrome in the front. you can go to my flickr page to see a bigger picture. i'm excited.

i'm in the midst of designing scooter dell'annata's other things ie. business cards, letterhead, print ads, website, etc. here are the cards. i think they have a nice little vibe going.

so i'm in charge of coming up with a character for utah's wellness fair. it's on halloween, so it's always done in that theme. this year's slogan is "don't trick yourself, treat yourself." i first came up with the skeleton (frank) on the left, but then decided on the kid (skyler) dressed as a skeleton. he's chubby so he's funny. word.



frank only has femurs because i never expected him to have a full body shot in any of the print work he'd be on.

yeah i named them both. wanna fight about it?

so there is a great foundation, called mondonation. just awesome all around. here is a video made by them that i found incredibly thoughtful and touching.



now, britney spears has decided to rip off their logo for her new fragrance. if you're going to rip off a non-profit organization's logo, at least change the colors a little. terrible.

the clam is ready

so, the logo design for my summer lax team has evolved a bit. i've cut it down to less colors to keep down the cost of screen printing. we're going with baby blue shirts and black shorts. we gonna look good, son.



we started off the season yesterday with a thorough 17-1 beating of tribal west.

the skeletons in my basement

i cleaned all my old artwork and crap that was down in our basement today. i came across a crappy half-finished sketch of a skull. perhaps inspired by the "skull-a-day" project, i markered her up and added a little somethin' somethin' to it. here ya go.

first, this designer from richmond, noah scalin, is creating a different skull each day for 365 days. that might have been a run-on sentence. here's his blog. i really love the stencil (which i downloaded and plan to use) and the turnip skull.

the band's second album is now a mainstay in my regular rotation. anthony green's voice is off the hook, dogg. word.

i love reggae as of lately, and this is my favorite album of that genre right now. it's an earlier work of his, and a bit hard to find, but worth it. my favorite track is "gwaan fight dem." the track has sweet sweet horns and an almost latin feel.


beastie boys


this is their newest ablum. "the mix up" comes out june 26 and is entirely instrumental. hootenanny! i really like it. it works and flows incredibly well.
